Great piece, as usual. Hey non sequitur, have you and Matt done anything on American Compass and the Oren Cass’s of the New Right? Despite their unnerving willingness to give into the the snake-oil salesmanship of Trump, there are some extremely appealing aspects to their argument of how the neoliberal consensus has brought us near ruin, or how the financialization of the economy has destroyed the worker and our communities. I often read an essay and on the surface find a smaller percentage I disagree with than the majority of the argument. It doesn’t usually have that fake elite scent you get from people like JD Vance or Josh Howley. These ideas have real magnetism for Rawlsian liberals disenchanted with the failure of the Democratic Party to provide tangible benefits. Anyway, I know you guys have analyzed a lot of New Right groups and ideas but was curious about y’all’s take on someone like Cass and his ilk. If I missed it, please link. If not, I always look forward to your shows.
We haven't done anything dedicated solely to Oren or American Compass, but I suspect we will in the future. For what it's worth, I find them basically unobjectionable and their policy profile interesting and consistent with their stated aims. I've also had several good conversations with staff from there.
